Bases Loaded is the latest in the Going for the Gold series. This novel stars Brett and his lover Benj. Brett is a seasoned baseball player with a hurt shoulder that has sidelined him from the game. The club is eager to have Brett work out the final year of his contract, so they send him to a retreat for the winter where he'll be looked after body, mind and spirit. Even if Brett thinks it's a lot of hooey, he's willing to try anything he can to get his old life back and finish out his career, if not on top of his game, at least in it. 

The retreat isn't really what Brett is expecting, but Jean and Ralph, the couple who own and run the place are willing to work hard with him so he can reach his goals. In fact, they think maybe he's working too hard. Between asking him to talk about his feelings and telling him to give up the booze, Brett's had just about enough. He's not sure he's going to be able to stick with the program and get better. When he's hit with even worse news, he has to wonder if he'll ever see the business end of a baseball diamond again.
